Police have no leads yet on brutal killing of couple

-
The Tabogon police are facing a blank wall on the brutal killing of the septuagenarian couple found dead outside their house in sitio Lub-ang, barangay Managase, Tabogon town last Sunday.

Tabogon police investigator SPO3 Douglas Amores yesterday said they still have to go back to the area where the incident happened to gather more information and evidence.

Rufo and Nemesia Gulban were brutally killed by unknown assailants last Saturday night. A neighbor found the naked body of Nemesia, 74, which prompted a search and several hours later the body of her husband Rufo, 79, was also found. They were killed several meters away from their house.

Police recovered from the crime scene a blood stained stone and a bolo, which they believed were among the implements used to kill the couple. The victims sustained wounds on different parts of their bodies and were hogtied using their own clothes. The Tabogon municipal health officer who conducted the medical examination revealed that the cause of death was strangulation.

SPO3 Amores said they are having difficulties in their investigation because they don't have witnesses. He said there is a possibility that hatred towards the couple could be the motive of the brutal killing. He added that they cannot also establish a robbery motive since the couple's children told them nothing was lost among their parents' belongings.

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director, S/Supt. Vicente Loot yesterday offered to help the Tabogon police in the investigation should the town police need it. - Norvie S. Misa
