Mandaue council okays P89-M budget for 2006

The Mandaue City council yesterday approved on first reading the first supplemental budget for this year amounting to P89,346,352.24, which will be utilized to meet the necessary expenditures of the city government for calendar year 2006.

Councilor Wenceslao Gakit, chairman of the committee on appropriations, budget and finance at the city council, said that the amount is based on the receipts from the savings on appropriations from various infrastructures projects under the following: Continuing appropriations amounting to P31,892,852.24, on the portion of surplus of the city's general fund amounting to P40 million, surplus on accounts from the city's market worth P13 million and surplus from slaughterhouse worth P4,453,5000.

Ordinance number 13-06 or an ordinance approving this supplemental budget stated that any surplus amount from the item appropriated shall be automatically reverted to the city's general fund at the close of fiscal/calendar year 2006.

Gakit said that by next week during their regular session, they will approve this with finality in order for it to take effect after approval by Mayor Thadeo Ouano.

"The city government has plenty of payables and we will use this amount to pay that," Gakit said.

The members of the city council has appropriated and approved a total of P800 million as the city's annual budget for this year. The said supplemental budget is on top of the said annual budget. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
