The regional police office ordered all its units in Central Visayas to monitor any illegal shipment of one-peso coins after a van loaded with these items was intercepted by the Maritime Police at the Manila International Container Port in North Harbor in Manila on February 18.
A Police Regional Office memorandum cited the case on the aborted illegal shipment of the coins by a certain Wang. The coins, which amounted to P1 million, were placed along with scrap metals inside a 40-foot container van bound for China.
The memorandum, signed by regional police operations chief Rey Lyndon Lawas in behalf of the regional director, instructed all police units in the region to report similar cases for submission to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on or before March 28.
