Wanted fratman yields, clarifies he is out on bail

Another fraternity member, who is on the wanted list of the police with a P50,000 reward for his capture, yesterday surrendered to authorities and clarified that he had post bail in the past for the case he is facing.
Glen Marson, 21, gave himself up to Supt. Paul Labra, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch, who then brought him to Mayor Tomas Osmeña who put up the cash rewards for fugitive fratmen.
Marson, a member of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, said his father Reynaldo convinced him to surrender so that his name will be cleared from the list, for which he should not be there considering that he has been on bail and thus not hiding from the law.
Mayor Osmena, after seeing Marson, told reporters that the surrender of another frat member would put pressure on the others who have warrants of arrest. "I hope some of them will be reluctant and will think twice before committing criminal activities," he said.
City Police director Melvin Gayotin held a press conference later announcing the release of Marson from police custody after homicide chief Mario Monilar confirmed that Marson had actually post a P20,000 bail to a homicide case in 2004.
In a separate interview with reporters, Marson's father said he convinced his son to surrender to put a stop to persistent reports in the media that he is a fugitive of the law, because he is out on bail.
On January 12, 2004, Marson along with two other Tau Gamma members were allegedly involved in a shootout with another group in barangay Duljo-Fatima, hitting a certain Eduardo Paradero, a carpenter from San Fernando town, who was clinging to a jeepney at the time. The victim died on arrival at the hospital.
The father said that after the arrest of his son, they post bail on February 5, last year, and they took him to his mother's home in Cortes town in Bohol until he agreed to his father's prodding to give up. - Flor Z. Perolina and Garry B. Lao
