This after the city government announced plans to promote its Lagundi Reef, located in barangay Poblacion, which according to Sto. Nino de Mohon Parish priest Rev. Fr. Tito Soquino -an avid scuba diver- is a "hidden treasure in Talisay City."
During its session the other day the council passed a resolution requesting the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving, through associate secretary Cynthia Carreon, to conduct an underwater survey at the said reef.
The resolution also asked the PCSSD to promote the reef as one of the dive destinations in the province.
In 1999 the council passed an ordinance establishing the spot as a marine sanctuary, but it was only this year that the city, through Tourism, Arts and Culture chairman Shirley Belleza, made an effort to promote the said diving spot.
"Efforts have been made by the Tourism and Heritage Council to identify beautiful spots such as the Lagundi Reef of the City of Talisay and act on its preservation for local and foreign tourists to visit and explore," the resolution read.
With the aide of the PCSSD the city will then be able to embark on policies and strategies that shall help in aggressively conserving and promoting the reef, said Belleza, who authored the resolution. - Liv G. Campo
