Two boys suffered second-degree burns in their inner thighs after they were ironed by their mother in sitio El Popular, barangay Zapatera, last Sunday morning, for being too noisy.
Grace Supeter ironed her sons, aged five and six, after being awakened by the noise they made playing inside the house. But she said she never meant to hurt them as she did not expect the iron to be still hot following the nap she took after ironing clothes.
Zapatera barangay Captain Francisco Benedicto said the children were brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment. He believes Grace does not have the mental capacity to take care of her sons.
He further said that Supeter blamed herself for what happened to her children and was trembling badly when she took her children to the hospital.
The hospital said that there was no child abuse and it was only accidental as told by Supeter, but they also recommended she undergo psychiatric treatment. - Norvie S. Misa
