Barangay captain Virgilio Sabanate of Saavedra, Moalboal town, had been receiving death threats by text before the alleged attempt to kill him last Saturday night, this according to provincial police director Vicente Loot.
Although Loot said they do not know yet who sent the text messages, he said they could be the people involved in the land conflict in barangay Saavedra.
"Kapitan dili mi mahadlok og gubat bisan palaban paka ni Col. Loot," one of the messages allegedly read.
Loot has ordered the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch to investigate the incident in coordination with the Talamban police.
"Patay gyud ang tuyo ato dili lang hulga kay nigamit man gyud og silencer ang gunman," he said.
Sabanate was in his residence in sitio Tigbao, barangay San Jose, last Saturday night, when fired at twice with a 9mm pistol. The shots missed Sabanate who crawled out of his vehicle upon hearing them. - Norvie S. Misa
