Mandaue City Councilor Wenceslao Gakit will head a newly created program designed to develop and maintain positive character qualities.
The Mandaue City Council has passed a resolution declaring the city as a City of Character and urging all government officials and employees, businessmen, law enforcement agencies, religious and community leaders, and all citizens of the city to develop and maintain positive character qualities.
Gakit is tasked to organize resource speakers who can help speak about values that the city should propagate and integrate the values formation compliance with the Permits and Clearances system of the city.
The resolution, which is sponsored by Gakit states that the leaders and the entire citizenry of the city recognize the importance of honorable character, qualities based upon the moral standards upheld by our ancestors by which they established our nation and its legal system.
"The current socio-economic problems of society will be alleviated when the citizens live by positive and constructive character qualities. Failure to demonstrate positive character qualities and wrong moral choices will endanger the health, safety and welfare of the citizens," Gakit's resolution reads.
The resolution further states that the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the city can only be realized and attained when the leaders and the citizenry exemplify positive qualities. - Mitchelle P. Calipayan
