Man jailed for stabbing lover

A married man is now detained after he allegedly stabbed his lover, who is also married, Tuesday night outside her workplace in barangay Opao, Mandaue City.

Rositio Maupas, 40, of M.J Cuenco Street, Cebu City was arrested by bystanders outside the W. L. Warehouse along Gerardo Ouano Street after they saw him stab his lover Nerissa Samong, 28, of Talisay City.

PO2 Dante Wenceslao of Police Station 5 of the Mandaue City Police Office said the suspect waited for his girlfriend at around 6 p.m.

Samong's co-workers said that they saw the suspect call the victim, but she hesitated to approach him, prompting him to drag her to a dark place.

When a heated argument ensued between the two, reports said the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed his lover. Bystanders who saw the incident immediately arrested the suspect while the victim's co-workers called up the police.

Police investigation revealed that the suspect got irked when the victim wanted to end their relationship for fear that her husband might find out about it. The suspect and the victim reportedly became lovers while they were working in another company.

Wenceslao said the victim is now recuperating in a hospital and that her husband will be filing charges against the suspect. - Flor Z. Perolina
