GAYOTIN SAYS: Pe did not request for police backup

Acting city police chief Melvin Gayotin yesterday denied reports that Councilor Jun Pe had requested for police backup while inside a bar.

Gayotin said he did not receive any report that Pe requested police assistance while being drunk in a bar.

"Wala man koy feedback kun mahubog si Jun Pe mo-request og police backup. Natayming lang kay tanang MPG dunay designated area o standby area. Unya ang maong lugar kay designated area man sa MPG, mo-standby (ang MPG) kay prone lagi sa gubot," Gayotin said.

He said it was just coincidental when the Mobile Patrol Group was spotted in the area where Pe was visiting because it is prone to any trouble.

Gayotin explained that the MPG is placed in an area so police could immediately respond to complaints from the people.

Aside from securing the people, MPG's designation is also aimed at saving gasoline and travel time since police assistance would be swift in case trouble erupts in its area of assignment. - Norvie S. Misa
