Girl accuses brother-in-law of rape

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law inside their house in Purok Nangka, barangay Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue City, last Wednesday might.

The victim who lodged the complaint before the Women's Desk of Station 1 in barangay Centro identified the accused as Wilbert Garrido, 28, who fled after the alleged rape.

Investigation conducted by the police revealed that the girl was sleeping alone at the ground floor of the house they occupied when abused by the accused.

The incident happened at around 11 p.m. last Wednesday, the victim said she was awakened by a naked man on top of her.

When the accused noticed that the girl recognized him, he hurriedly left.

Police said the victim brought to the station the underwear the accused allegedly left behind after the incident. It will be used as evidence of the rape charge to be filed against the accused.

A medical examination at the Center for Children and Women at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center showed that the victim had been raped. - Jose P. Sollano
