More guards assigned to help secure CPDRC

The Capitol has beefed up security at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center after the Committee on Discipline and Investigation found serious breaches of security procedures by the security agency, leading to the escape of two inmates last Sunday.

Governor Gwen Garcia said that she already assigned newly trained members of the Capitol Civil Security Unit to augment the guards provided by Spectrum Security Agency. The special reaction unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office is also on standby to augment security.

Spectrum Security Agency general manager Robert Aaron Gregorio also came over to Cebu yesterday to explain to Governor Gwen Garcia why their contract should not be terminated for gross neglect of duty.

Gregorio refused to talk to the media after the meeting with the governor while Garcia vowed to come up with a more decisive action today after receiving the explanation from the agency.

Meanwhile, visitors at the CPDRC yesterday complained after they were denied entry. Garcia suspended all the visitation privileges of the inmates after the escape of Eduardo de la Concepcion and Roel Arabis last Sunday.

Arabis and de la Concepcion, facing charges for double-murder and rape, respectively, were recaptured last Monday afternoon by joint operatives of the 78th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army and Balamban police together with executive assistant Edwin Mixdon in a mountain barangay in Asturias.

The two were caught at the house of Arabis' grandmother in sitio Kamanaol, barangay Ubogon, Asturias. - Fred P. Languido
