DSWD gives P2.6M to disaster victims in CV

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has disbursed more than P2, 656,404 for its relief augmentation program to victims of calamities and disasters in the region.

Velma Rago of the DSWD-7 in a press release said that from October 2004-August 2005, DSWD-7 has given food commodities, housing materials, used clothing and financial assistance to 1,220 families and 90 individuals and children who were victims of various disasters within the region.

According to Rago, her agency was able to disburse some P970, 395.99 to 623 families and 85 individuals who were fire victims in Consolacion, Mandaue City, Cebu City, Tagbilaran City and in Calape, Bohol. The assistance given was in the form of food commodities, housing materials, and cash.

Cash assistance of P8,000 was given to three children who were victims of a bomb explosion in barangay Tugbungan in Consolacion, Cebu and P21,000 to 70 families in Centro, Mandaue City whose houses were demolished by the authorities, Rago reported.

One hundred fifty one families in Bonawon, Siaton who were caught within the armed conflict between the rebels and the government forces were also given food assistance worth P141,000.00 while 154 families affected by a tornado in Talisay City were also given food and cash assistance worth P876,508.30.

Twenty seven families that succumbed to food poisoning in San Jose, Mabini in Bohol in 2004 and another 195 families in Mayana, Jagna, Bohol that were victims of a landslide recently were giver food commodities, used clothing and cash assistance worth P607,500.00. - Jasmin R. Uy
