Naga/Uling-Toledo road rehab contractor asks for extension

The contractor of the P805-million rehabilitation project of the Naga/Uling-Toledo Road recently requested for a 54-day extension of its contract period after it fell short of at least two percent of the scheduled accomplishment.

The Cavite Ideal International Construction and Development Corporation reported that it only achieved 12.549 percent of the expected completion of 14.829 percent of the contract duration that started last November 11 until October 31, next year.

The contractor, however, cited the delay in progress payment last July 11 and August 4 prompted it to suspend further works causing the shortfall in its target.

The request for extension was already endorsed for approval by the project consultants, Nippon Koie Company and Aquaterra Consultants Inc., and there were unconfirmed reports that the national government, through the DPWH, had already granted the request. The entire project covers rehabilitation of the 34.814-kilometer stretch of existing road, six bridges, and 14 slope protection works, starting at the Naga-Uling junction up to the Toledo City Hall. -Ferliza C.
