Ouano to go after patients who owe city hospital money

To generate funds to improve the services of the Mandaue City Hospital, Mayor Thadeo Ouano has directed the city local health board to submit the list of promissory notes that remain as collectibles.

The city mayor also directed members of the local health board to initiate measures for immediate collection of these unpaid collectibles.

According to Ouano, he was informed that there are still a number of promissory notes that remain uncollected.

Ouano said the city hospital, although considered as one of the city's economic enterprises, still draws subsidy from the city government.

He said income derived from hospital operations goes back to support the logistical requirements of the hospital.

The city mayor added that the services rendered by the city hospital are considered public in nature but would still need to generate income to support its operations considering that other public services are vital.

It was learned that patients that tap the services of the city hospital and do not have the means to fully pay services rendered are allowed to be discharged after filling up a promissory note to ensure payment at a given time.
