Beat Patrol under one roof proposed

- Ryan P. Borinaga -
If plans push through, the city police office would have a centralized Beat Patrol section.

At present, the 11 police stations have at least five beats designated in crime prone areas within its jurisdiction with two policemen manning each beat.

But acting city police chief Melvin Gayotin believes it is more effective if the beat patrol would be centralized so that it is easier to monitor the activities of each personnel just like the Crime Suppression Unit.

Under the present setup of the CSU, the 24 personnel are directly under the Mobile Patrol Group although they are assigned a senior police non-commissioned Officer as supervisor.

In the proposed Beat Patrol section, the city police would request additional personnel from the regional headquarters because beat patrol policemen in various police stations will remain at the station to answer the shortage of operatives.

Once the beat patrol section is formed, an officer with the rank of chief inspector will be tasked to man the office with two inspectors as deputies.

At present, the plan is undergoing careful study at the city's operation's division to determine how the office should operate and how many men should take part in it.

Once the study is done, it will be forwarded to the City Hall and the regional headquarters for approval.

As of now, various complaints crop up accusing some members of beat patrol of various police stations on not being at their respective posts most of the time.
