Man nabbed for rape try

The Mobile Patrol Group arrested yesterday morning a man who allegedly attempted to rape a student she was inside her room in a boarding house in barangay Sambag I.

Policemen arrested a certain Rex Lañujan, 19, a public utility jeepney conductor, and a resident of the place after he was positively identified by the victim and neighbors.

The 20-year-old woman told The FREEMAN yesterday that she was trimming her fingernails inside her room when she noticed a man coming up the boarding house. She said she thought he was a visitor of another boarder.

But the suspect entered her room, grabbed her and then kissed her.

When she resisted, the suspect pushed her to the floor. She then called her aunt for help who was in the toilet. The woman sustained bruises on the left side of her face and forehead.

Some neighbors who heard her cry for help and saw the suspect running out of the boarding house called the police.

The suspect was arrested while he was eating in a carenderia. The police also arrested his uncle, a certain Alberto Arnado, for allegedly intervening in the arrest and for brandishing a Swiss knife. The two are detained at the stockade of the Mobile Patrol Group.

SPO1 Richard Catacutan, an MPG investigator, said that a case for attempted rape will be filed against the suspect, while a case of obstruction of justice will be filed against his uncle. - Flor Z. Perolina
