-
The Department of Science and Technology will feature a Science and Technology Fair that will showcase strategic technologies in its celebration of the National Science and Technology Week.

The various exhibits that will range from processed food products to the latest information and communication technology will run from July 14 to 18.

Aside from the technology fair, the 2005 NSTW will also include scientific meetings, S&T awards and recognition and a counterpiece exhibit featuring DOST Agencies and regional offices using a walk-through magazine presentation format.

In a video conference yesterday, DOST Secretary Estrella Alabastro said that DOST has also launched a Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP) in response to the presidents call for more focused programs of assistance for SME's.

SET UP is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist SME's to adopt technological innovations to improve their operations and thus boost their productivity and competitiveness.

The program enables firms to address their technical problems through technology transfer and technological interventions to improve productivity through better product quality, human resources development and waste management.

SETUP hopes to assist SME's through the provision of limited funds for technology acquisition, manpower training, technical assistance and consultancy services including the establishment of product standards including testing.
