Dumpit, Labra deny part in Nodalo slay

Controversial city policeman Adonis Dumpit and police intelligence head Paul Labra yesterday denied allegations that they were involved in the killing of drug and robbery suspect Joel "Tongol" Nodalo in Buenavista, Bohol, last Wednesday.

Nodalo, the ninth most wanted man in the region but first in Cebu City's list of notorious men, was slain inside a cockpit in barangay Asingan, Buenavista town, by a gunman who, witnesses said, wore a shaggy wig.

The still unidentified killer pumped at least 10 bullets on the unwary Nodalo, who died on the spot with multiple wounds to the head and body.

Nodalo's wife Janice told radio dySS that it was Dumpit who did it, alleging she heard Dumpit's voice on her husband's cellphone when she contacted it right after learning of the incident.

Dumpit yesterday shrugged it off and said, "Gidaman ra na siya. Kalayo anang dapita. Unsa ko? Ungo nga moabot sa usa ka lugar kalit-kalit. Naa ra ko dire gahapon naglatagaw sa Sugbu kay nahiubos ko sa akong suspension."

Janice's uncle Leo Contreras, for his part, yesterday alleged it was Labra who masterminded the killing.

Labra wondered why he was implicated when he really had nothing to do about it. "Unsa mana oi wala manay klaro. Ngano gud tawong ako? Unsa gud tawon labot nako ana? I will not comment unless the accusation is put into writing or I will charge them for maligning my name. I challenge them to show their evidence in implicating me," Labra said.

Dumpit was at the City Hall yesterday morning to return the city-issued firearms to property officer Mario Mondares of the city's General Services Office -an Armscor .45 cal. pistol, and Smith & Wesson .357 cal. revolver.

Not included in the city-issued guns returned by Dumpit is the .45 cal. pistol, which he surrendered to the PNP crime laboratory for ballistic examination, after he was tagged as the gunman of a certain Federico Tabon, a jeepney driver from barangay Tejero, in August of last year.
