"They solicit by phone from our political barangay leaders, businessmen and, worse, even from the parish priest in Tabunok by identifying themselves as councilor Bacaltos," said Talisay City councilor Ritchel Bacaltos yesterday.
Bacaltos said he must warn Talisaynons to be extra cautious in talking with people or groups who may be soliciting money from them and claiming he is the one asking them to do so.
"Mo-ingon ra ba nga naay nasakit, na-ospital, naay tabangonon diri; mas maayo unta makahatag mo. Ako lang ipakuha diha ang inyong hinabang," Bacaltos retold what Tabunok priest Melchor Urgel had relayed to him.
Urgel called up Bacaltos saying he would like to confirm if the councilor actually asked somebody to approach the church for financial assistance.
Bacaltos also said a councilman of barangay Lawaan earlier fell victim when he acceded in sending P200 to an unidentified caller who called him up asking for help, using Bacaltos' name.
Bacaltos, the council's majority leader, said he already coordinated with the police on the matter because these unauthorized solicitations from unidentified people would destroy his name and credibility.
Bacaltos is urging everyone to inform his office at telephone no. (032) 272-3492 the moment he or she receives calls from people soliciting for assistance in his behalf.
