Celebrating Easter

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - On Sunday, we celebrate an important Christian holiday, Easter – a celebration of Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

Easter Egg Hunt

What excites the kids during Easter is, of course, the popular Easter Egg Hunt and the Easter Egg Decoration!

According to history.com, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection.  Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to the 13th century, according to some sources. Eggs were formerly a forbidden food during the Lenten season, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting, and then eat them on Easter as a celebration.

In the book The Puritan April to September, it is stated that “an egg hunt  is a game during which decorated eggs, real hard-boiled ones or artificial ones filled with, or made of chocolate  candies, of various sizes, are hidden for children to find, both indoors and outdoors. When the hunt is over, prizes may be given for the largest number of eggs collected, or for the largest or the smallest egg.”

Easter Rabbit

Researchers (based on Simrock, Mythologie, 551)of the newadvent.org claim that the â€œEaster Rabbit lays the eggs, for which reason they are hidden in a nest or in the garden.” The rabbit is a symbol of new life.

Celebrating Easter is always fun with so many activities lined-up to remember Jesus Christ’s victory over sin and death.
