A Cowboy Welcome!

CEBU, Philippines - The birth of any new baby deserves to be celebrated. Oftentimes a baby shower is given by family and friends to offer the young parents an opportunity to prepare their "nest" for the arrival of their baby.

My niece Monique Jarque was feted recently  with a  baby shower  at the Pantry which was a little different from the traditional pink or blue, bear or baby bottle theme.

Isabel Velasco, a long time resident of Spain but has since moved back home,   graciously handled  all the necessary preparations. Guests received personalized  denim invitations  and enjoyed a carefully planned menu  which showcased the Pantry'sspecialties, such as Spanish cold cuts, delicious appetizers,  an assortment of sandwiches, potato salad, decadent and delicious  cupcakes and cakes lovingly baked by Monique.

To celebrate the impending arrival of a baby boy first week of November, the Pantry was decorated with tiny cowboy paraphernalia such as hats, scarves  and lazzos.

The fun, after-dark gathering gave the mommy-to-be a leg up in acquiring essential items like baby clothing, nursing equipment, special blankets,  toys and games and other treasures for the baby's much awaited arrival.

The BIG day is just around the corner and everyone is breathlessly waiting to welcome its newest member to the family. (FREEMAN)
