CEBU, Philippines - Feng shui, or the study of how time, space and the environment affect your health, wealth and relationships, is not just about trinkets, lucky charms and the correct placement of things in your office or home. You do not have to spend a lot to apply feng shui in daily life. You can actually be feng shui chic to attract luck and prosperity.
Feng shui master Aldric Dalumpines, who is a feng shui consultant for many high profile individuals and companies, said that feng shui chic is any fashion style that adheres to the three key factors of being in your "element," in color harmony to promote well-being using the clothes and accessories that you wear, including your shoes.
"While fashion evolved primarily to protect humans from the forces of nature and the seasonal changes, feng shui compliant fashion style ultimately locks it in by making luck for the wearer," he added.
Master Aldric explains that the application of feng shui in fashion is anchored on the law of attraction, which means that the wearer attracts what he or she wears. "Your fashion expression is the extension and manifestation of your human life energies, or ‘chi’ that either harmonizes or puts you in conflict with your environment and human relations," he said.
According to Chinese philosophy, there are five elements, or wu xing, that affects the existence of all beings – wood, fire, earth, metal and water. These elements, Master Aldric said, can help you to be feng shui chic.
"The key is to know your feng shui element, which you can apply like a lucky charm guide to your fashion statement," he said.
Each of the five elements represents colors -- wood is all tones of green; fire is red and all its variants; earth is yellow and brown tones; metal is white and all metallic colors; and water is blue or black.
Your feng shui element can be determined using the year you were born, based on Chinese astrology. For example, if you were born between February 11, 1975 to January 30, 1976, then you are a Wood Rabbit. Those born between January 21, 1966 to February 8, 1967 belong to the Fire Horse. Take note that the Chinese calendar is not the same as Gregorian calendar that we use.
Once you know your element, you can now use the colors that correspond to it as lucky charms or energizers.
"It is best to wear your lucky colors always! Even as underwear in case you have to wear office uniforms that have colors that do not comply with your feng shui," Master Aldric said. "Always avoid wearing unlucky colors which are the destructive element to your personal element."
While it is sometimes unavoidable to wear the colors that are against your element, Master Aldric said you can only wear unlucky colors of up to one third of your fashion color appointments, such as a scarf or bag color. "But never shoes!" he warned.
The ultimate purpose of feng shui, he explained, is for you to be in harmony with your environment and promote your well being, including good health.
"Our feet are very important. Notice that foot reflexology is now very popular? This is because the 'chi' or life energy circulation emanates from the feet to other body organs. Feng shoes is very important. Choosing the right pair of shoes to wear for any occasion can attract and enhance good fortune, a happy lifestyle, mirthful lovelife, prosperous career and wealth, as well as good health," Master Aldric said. He further added that the correct color of your shoes, just like your clothes, when coordinated with your wardrobe, can enhance the flow of energy throughout your entire body, manifesting a wholesome aura.
