Quinientos Pintados' September One Battle

1565. Legazpi's expedition proceeded from Spain

To the far distant kingdom of Cebu, once again.

Their presence, bombarding the coastline

Bloodbath avoiding, native children and women

And old people in thick forested mountains hidden

Keeping away from battle and dying in vain

Rajah Tupas prepared for war his 500 fiercest men.

1569, on the first day of the rainy month of September,

The Spanish camp was attacked, surprising the foreigners

Day and night the battle raged, hacking here, knifing there

The warriors' stick prowess caused ache and utter fear

The enemy agonized, before natives their lives laid bare.

Rajah Tupas charged from the mountains to honored land

Portuguese friends at sea and native warriors in his command

The trapped invading strangers were greatly overpowered

Submitting to shameful defeat, before natives forces they cowered

1570 on the 23rd of March, Fort San Pedro was bombarded

Amidst a fierry hell, the Spaniards surrendered

In fear for their lives, to Panay Island they retreated

Unable to subdue the wise and skillful Pintados, warriors of Cebu,

& Rajah Tupas, the last and mighty king, our noble hero.
