It's breakfast time

CEBU, Philippines - Hey, kids! It has been over a week since classes started. Do you now wake up early by yourself?

Aside from making sure that your homework, books and notebooks are ready before going to school, another thing you must remember is to eat breakfast.

Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You must never miss it! Of course, you are in a hurry to go to school. You do not want to be late, right? But read on to know the importance of breakfast and I am sure you will want to wake up early to have a good meal before you rush to school.

Breakfast, according to Dr. Arcelin Lomanta Piramide, a pediatrician, is the most important meal because it is where you get energy to keep you going throughout the day.

However, studies made by the American Dietetic Association revealed that it is also the most skipped or neglected meal because people are usually rushing to get to school or to work.

The benefits of breakfast

Studies made about breakfast reveal that it has many benefits to children, teens and adults. Breakfast is important to the brain and the body because it provides the needed energy for the brain and the body to function properly the whole day. Do you notice that whenever you skip eating breakfast you feel tired or irritable in the morning?

Breakfast is also the first chance of the body to refuel. Remember that after eating dinner the previous day, you no longer eat anything until you wake up in the morning. This is why breakfast is called breakfast, to break the fast of the previous day. The food you eat for breakfast is a good source of glucose or sugar, which is the main energy source of the brain. Sugar also acts like fuel for the muscles for your physical activities throughout the day.

Children who eat breakfast before going to school have higher scores in tests and generally perform better in school than those who do not eat breakfast. This is proven true by many studies observing children.

A good healthy breakfast consists of breads, cereals, protein (which you can get from eggs and meat), fruits and vegetables, and milk, cheese and yogurt.

Breakfast is really, really important especially for growing kids like you. So make sure to sleep early tonight and wake up early tomorrow and eat a healthy, full breakfast. Remember, eating breakfast can make you smart and alert the whole day!
