It seemed only yesterday when Malayan Insurance Company, Inc. opened its doors in Cebu.
Some 60 years ago, Malayan Insurance Company owner and then president Alfonso Yuchengco offered the first managerial post to the late Atty. Anatolio Ynclino. Through the years, Malayan Insurance Company, Inc. has grown by leaps and bounds. So big is the company that it is now the “largest non-life insurance company in the country.”
Last March 25, MICO’s main office in Manila celebrated its 80 years, while the Cebu office celebrated its 60 years. The Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC, a member of Alfonso Yuchengco’s group of companies) also turned 50 years.
The Malayan group had an incredible celebration in Cebu having 60 greater opportunities and years of leadership in the insurance industry in the Queen City of the South.
Yvonne S. Yuchengco, president of Malayan Insurance Company, Inc. came all the way from Manila to give awards to persons whose loyalty to the company was unequivocal and beyond measure. Among the recipients of the loyalty award was our dear friend and mate, Fer C. Ynclino, whose invaluable commitment and continuous support to Malayan Insurance has remained strong for the last 36 years. In fact, until this day, Fer still serves the company as consultant after his retirement as branch manager.
Preceding the awarding rites was a thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Fr. Jun Saladaga at the Salon de España Ballroom of Casino Español de Cebu, after which, a sumptuous lunch and a short program followed. The momentous celebration was capped with the raffling off of a lot of handsome prizes like watches, free trips and others. The 60th anniversary celebration of Malayan Insurance Company, Inc. was an affair worth remembering.
Company bigwigs and officers of sister companies who graced the event were: Paolo Y. Abaya – Sales and Marketing Director, Antonio Rubin –AVP, and RCBC managers Theresa Tiu, Rodel Nob, Ramon Ponce de Leon, Prugie Gesta and Bessie Villamor. Cesar Olear of the Insurance Commission, Jose Ng of Hanover Mftg., Martin Yuchuico, and Georgia Osmeña, a good friend of President Yvonne Yuchengco, were also in attendance.
