CEBU, Philippines - With our pockets slowly recovering from the financial onslaught of 2009, 2010 promises not only trends in fashion that make a bang for our buck but more so in the realm of fitness. Fitness and fashion really go hand in hand despite the influx of the kind of fashion that’s more versatile and flexible even if you’re well, kinda unhealthy. 

Being fit isn’t about having the biceps to boot. It’s really more about having just the right weight and built for your body type. It sounds as simple as that but when you’re plopped in the kind of work that doesn’t offer you a lot of physical exercise, it’s honestly something to really work on.

Going to the gym alone is one of the things that can really take the fun out of wanting to be fit and thank God for 2010, group exercises will continue to be a big thing ensuring that gym time won’t necessarily be alone-time. 

The great thing about exercising in droves is that it offers extra motivation and yes, even discipline for those whose spirits are willing to be fit but whose flesh are weak. Group exercises and fitness classes are a great way for people to draw on each other’s energy. For me, it’s been a great avenue to really spur yourself to work harder than usual.

Here are some of the top group exercises to try out if you haven’t gotten started yet.:

Yoga

Originally one of the major branches of Hindu PHilisophy, yoga has grown from its purely traditional roots to a fitness trend that’s become a hit especially for the extremely stressed out. Yoga is a healing system that a combination of both theory and practice. It’s a mix of meditation, breathing exercises, and physical poses that’s been around for nearly 5 millenia.

Yoga is extremely effective when it comes to increasing flexibility by amping up lubrication on the various joints, tendons, and ligaments of the body especially those which are usually not touched by your usual exercise routine. This is because even some of the most simple yoga positions work on the body in a mysteriously interrelated manner enabling flexibility to be easily attained. 

Apart from flexibility, yoga is known to be a great detoxifier by working up and massaging the body’s internal organs and by getting rid of flabs and strengthening and toning muscles that have either become too soft or slothy.

Pilates

Developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany, the Pilates method was dubbed by its proponent as Contrology considering that this particular form of GroupEx operates on the principle of the mind controlling the muscles. The main goal of Pilates is to teach breathing awareness, alignment of the spine, and to strengthen the torso muscles.

When practiced regularly, Pilates can definitely help you train your body to move more efficiently—that is, in a way that makes your body move smoother and less prone to injury. If it’s a great looking tummy that you’re after, there’s definitely no need to go under the knife since Pilates is known to strengthen you core—the muscles surrounding your back and abdominal area—making sure that it’s toned and that you’re bikini ready.

Belly Dancing

More than just a popular form of dancing, belly dancing is actually a fitness fad that has tremendous effects in the body considering that it works with your body instead of altering the body’s frame. The series of pivots and hip drops aren’t just mere dance steps from this Persian masterpiece. But these together with a slew of other belly dancing maneuvers can work wonders in the muscles surrounding

Belly Dancing is a sensible weight loss secret considering that it is known to burn 300 calories per hour depending of course on the intensity of your dancing. When combined with a proper diet and other forms of exercises like biking or aerobics, you’ll easily begin to reap the benefits of feeling great while having a great body.

For the busy bodies, belly dancing can be a great respite from having to worry about deadlines and business plans given the repetitive dance moves with a background of soothing as well as exotic rhythms.

Capoeira

Capoeira is Afro-Brazilian in origin and combines the striking elements of martial arts, music and dance. Capoeira’s origin is interesting, having been born from African slaves that were brought to Brazil. Hundreds of years later, it has become part of a fitness itinerary for the cool and the flexible.

More than simply moving to the beat of a rhythmic tune, capoeira is an intense cardio workout that is a great way to release every day stress while at the same time increasing one’s competitiveness and developing dedication and discipline.

Group exercises can also come in the form of team sports which can be a real blast when played with friends. It’s definitely not limited into just a few moves. Exercising by groups is way more interesting than simply going at it alone. After all, with a few blunders here and there, that extra time to laugh out loud is another great opportunity to burn some extra calories.

Besides, the after exercise chow time is also just as great.
