MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of artistic directors Gregory Aaron and Niclolas Pacaña’s 3rdyear anniversary directing Balletcenter and the 7thyear since it’s premier, we are delighted to bring back the magical world of Little Mermaid . We invite audiences to become lost with Ariel and her delightful friends and other interesting characters like the (Act 1) Angel Fish, Rainbow Fish, Sun Fish, Seahorses, Sword Fish, Mermaidens, Mermaids, Mermen, Witches, Ursula, Queen of the Sea, The Prince (Act 2)The ladies in waiting, Junior Princesses, friends of the Prince and Princesses at the Ball.
Fond memories of the 2002 premier performances of the Little Mermaid have inspired us to re-stage this charming Hans Christian Andersen children’s fairy tale. Since premiering the ballet in Cebu, the directors have staged the ballet numerous times for performances held in the Philippines and the United States. Audiences are delighted by the charming characters from Angel Fish to Mermaids that make up the myriad world of the ocean.
Artistic Director Nicolas Pacaña who danced the role of the Prince in the 2002 version will dance the role of King Triton, Ariel’s Father. Alternating the role of Ariel is Rollaine Nuez and Marifel Villamor. Rounding up the main cast are Kristina Belleza & Alexis Peña, both playing the role of Ursula, Mhynard Etis as Prince Eric and Christine Morden as the Princess of the Sea.
Interesting changes to the libretto are the transformation scenes of Ursula – the witch, a new 2nd act variation and the fight scene between King Triton and Ursula.
Additional performances will also be held in Davao City, General Santos City, Mindanao, and Lipa City Batangas.
