Balletcenter Cebu Student To Compete In National Junior Ballet Competition

CEBU, Philippines - Balletcenter Cebu, under the direction of the artistic directors Gregory Aaron and Nicolas Pacaña, is pleased to announce that Gerardo Rey “Rarry” Abatol has been accepted as a ballet entrant into the National NAMCYA Junior Ballet Competition to be held at the CCP on November 11 to 15.

Rarry was first accepted to the second round Via Video audition which was held in Bacolod City at the Lydia Gaston Studio of Dance last September 20.

He has studied under Founding Artistic Director Fe Sala Villarica, Johanna Mangubat, Linda Rivera, Chris Manlunas, Baby Cabaero, Julius Lagare and artistic directors Pacaña and Aaron.

Rarry is 16 years old, the son of Cecilia Abatol and Crisaldo Abatol. He is a graduate of Lahug Elementary School and is presently attending UPHS in Cebu.

Rarry enrolled in Balletcenter when he was 6 years old and has progressed through the levels from elementary to advance. He has danced numerous roles, memorable parts would be one of the brothers of Peter Pan, soloist in Symphony in C, and the signature role of Candy Cane in The Nutcracker.

Summer study has included 3 years attending Balletcenter Cebu’s International Summer Series. He has received in-depth coaching from Artistic Directors Aaron and Pacaña to prepare him for this competition.

The competitors will be taught an enchainment (classical technique) to be performed during the competition, aside from a classical variation and a contemporary piece each to be no longer than two minutes long.

Rarry will be dancing a contemporary piece choreographed by Pacaña and a classical variation from Le Corsair.

This is a privilege and honor for Rarry and Balletcenter to be selected to represent Cebu City and the Visayas in this national competition.
