Nostalgia crept into my psyche the moment I set my sight on first face Elvira Stehr during the Mango launch at the Ayala Center Cebu Expansion Building one fashion frenzy feeding weekend. Earlier that day, Cebu Fashion Designers’ Alliance (CFDA) unveiled their state weddings collection to a thunderous applause and lots of promising inquiries from over excited brides to be.
Immediately after, statuesque models from M.A.C.>Models Association of Cebu literally ran to the Mango shop nearby for a change of make up and voila! Pale eyes and red lips reminiscing of bygone era screen goddesses.
Mango’s Fall-Winter 2007 collection obviously pushed dresses as the star of the season. Not so long ago, though, the spectacle of the fashion show was in the fabric, not the celebrity filled front row. For Mango, tweeds, silks, cashmere, boucle, lame and twill obviously shone that night as dresses in luxurious prints and sleek silhouetted plains sashayed the runway and by now into the fashionistas’ closets. The chic audience in attendance were enthralled by every piece as the dresses were magnificently styled with the in season scarves, bags, accessories and, oh, those boots!
So I expect to see those 60s inspired dresses as they wind their way into Christmas parties alongside couture pieces from Cebu’s top designers. One thing is for sure though, Mango, the chic Spanish clothing line named after the fruit when one of its owners visited Cebu, is here to stay! Bravissimo!
