Gov. Gwen's State of the Province Address

As the President of the Philippines had her SONA on the 24th, our very own Governor Gwendolyn Fiel Garcia delivered her State of the Province Address (SOPA) on the 14th with eloquence and élan.

The moment SamCost announced the arrival of Gov. Gwen at the Capitol Social Hall, everyone rose, accompanied by the resounding tune of "Cebu! Cebu!"

Gov. Gwen was in her element - elegant too in her bronzy outfit. Wearing a pair of dangling glitters and a choker of tiny pearls, as the First Lady of Cebu, she portrayed the role of a woman on top of the world. But before she started her 28-page speech, she opened with a tribute to her parents - Gov. Pablo Garcia and retired Judge Esperanza Garcia.

One hundred weeks have passed after she took office in 2004, and the hardworking governor has been all over the province, restoring the faith of the people and bringing back hope. After fifty years, water in the three towns of Bantayan Islands was no longer a luxury, unattainable to most homes. Plus, a touching instance in Alcantara town where an old man of ninety-eight touched her hand because in his lifetime, he has never seen a governor in this province.

In her address, she mentioned all her accomplishments and successes. Simply put, she did everything for the benefit of the people of Cebu. No wonder she received nineteen (19) deafening applause and a standing ovation!

For all the wonderful things she has done for the "great Cebuano people", Gov. Gwen Garcia earned the admiration and love of her allies in government, as well as those who have not been so nice to her. Not to mention that Gov. Gwen has the record of being the only governor who reached every nook and cranny of the province, proving to all that nothing is impossible and unreachable if your two feet carry you if you do it for the people you love to serve!

Congratulations, Guv! That was a marvelous address. May you continue to serve your people, especially now that the "State of the Province is Strong!"
