October 22, 2005 | 12:00am
Cebu's concert scene ends the 2005 season with the show that has concertgoers and music lovers eagerly awaiting the musical event of the year.
Philmedia proudly presents Tony and Laurence Olivier Awardee, Ms. Lea Salonga in "Lea (Live in Cebu) - A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION" on Friday December 9, 2005 at the Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Having performed in the world's top concert halls, Lea's fans from key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao, are looking forward to her pre-Christmas concert in Cebu, her first outside of Manila.
This will also be Lea's one and only concert in the Philippines this year. Lea Salonga, the award winning performer, won world acclaim at the age of 18 when Cameron Mackintosh selected her after worldwide auditions for the leading role of Kim, the tragic Vietnamese bar girl in the stunning musical "Miss Saigon". She debuted in the West End production in London in the late '80s where she won the prestigious Sir Laurence Olivier award for Best Actress in a Musical role and reprised the role in Broadway a few years later, also winning the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. Lea went on to play Eponine, the first Asian performer ever, in the hit musical "Les Miserables" and joined other stage luminaries at its Tenth Anniversary Concert at London's Albert Hall. She recently starred in a revival of "Flower Drum Song". Together with Lea in Cebu will be the illustrious San Miguel orchestra who will be flown in from Manila in what is billed as the must-see concert of 2005. The show's musical director is Lea's younger brother, Gerard Salonga, who will conduct the 30-piece orchestra.
The repertoire for "Lea (Live in Cebu) - A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION" will be an intimate mix of enduring classics, show - stopping Broadway tunes, jazz pieces, immortal Pilipino love songs and a Christmas carol or two.
Part of the proceeds of the concert will be for the benefit of the Children of Cebu Foundation, Inc. The in-demand tickets are available at Wings Travel Ayala, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, SM Customer Service, Ayala Center Customer Service Counter and Philmedia at 254-6460.
