EA Guzman struggled with English, motorcycle scene in ‘Mia’
Edgar Allan Guzman considers it a big challenge to have a lot of English dialogues in his latest movie titled “Mia” from Insight 360 Films.
EA plays a nerd forester in this Veronica Velasco film which has Coleen Garcia as the female lead. “I portray a forester who is very knowledgeable about mining so I have a lot of dialogues in English. Some of the words are hard to pronounce but I was able to do it with the help of our director and Coleen as well,” said EA.
The actor says the motorcycle scene with Coleen was pretty hard to do because aside from the long dialogues, it was also the first time for him to drive a motorcycle.
“I had to learn how to drive before the shoot. I don’t know how to drive a motorcycle. I just had to learn it since it is needed for the scene. I was driving the motorcycle with Coleen at the back while delivering long lines in English! I was pressured but I was able to do the scene properly,” related the best supporting actor winner for “Deadma Walking.”
EA admitted he was nervous while doing the motorcycle scene but he didn’t want to be affected by it, fearing that if he didn’t get the scene right in one take, it would be harder to do a retake. “I immersed myself in the role and concentrated to get things done easily,” he said.
On his first impression of Coleen, EA shared, “I first met her through Billy Crawford. But we didn’t get the chance to talk more often. When we shot ‘Mia’ in Palawan, she was also kind of aloof but I thought that it was probably her way of preparing for her role since Mia’s character is somewhat like that. Mia’s aloof with Jay which I play. Once she arrives on set, she is already in character. She is very nice and very helpful to me, most especially when I had that long monologue in English. She taught me how to pronounce the words properly. She is a real person, very nice to be with.”
While he drinks moderately, EA is not fond of going out to drink. So he has yet to encounter a girl who is a heavy drinker, just like Coleen’s character in “Mia” who drinks because she is going through a tragic situation.
“It’s hard to have a drink too many. If ever I get to encounter a girl who is drunk, I think I will stretch my patience so that I can understand her situation. Jay is not the type who’d take advantage of a girl, most especially if she is not in her right senses,” said EA.
Produced by public relations guru and award-winning filmmaker Chris Cahilig of Insight 360 Films in partnership with Viva Films, “Mia” tells the tale of a self-destructive alcoholic, Mia, a doctor struggling to heal from the tragedy of her fiance’s death, and Jay, who transforms mined-out land into rainforests.
With its screenplay co-written by Velasco and Jinky Laurel, the film shows that conflict can sometimes lead to something beautiful, as Mia and Jay’s clashes also show that their chemistry is undeniable.
Aside from the acting prowess of the lead actors, netizens are also intrigued by the film’s unique and realistic take on love and healing, and are eager to watch the movie to see how the story will unfold.
Other cast members include veteran actors Yayo Aguila and William Martinez, Billy Crawford, Star Orjaliza, Jeremy Domingo, Sunshine Teodoro, Pau Benitez and Xenia Barrameda.
Two days prior to its much-awaited showing on cinemas nationwide on January 15, “Mia” will hold a National Mia Day at the Cinema 1 of SM Megamall, wherein lucky women named Mia will be given free tickets to attend the film’s special screening.
The cast and crew lead by Coleen and EA will likewise be holding a series of mall shows in SM Dasmarinas (Jan. 11) and Fishermall Malabon and Quezon Avenue (Jan. 12).
