Nora Aunor postpones operation to recover 'golden voice'

CEBU, Philippines - Undergoing an operation to regain her singing voice would spell another prolonged absence from show business — a scenario veteran actress Nora Aunor would prefer to put off following her successful comeback on TV and film.

“‘Yung therapy ang matagal. Kasi sayang naman kung mawawala na naman ako, kasi kailangan, sabi ng doctor, pagkatapos ng operation, kailangan mag-therapy ako sa New York, at magse-stay ako syempre,” Aunor said in an interview with dzMM on Wednesday.

In January, Aunor had a preliminary check-up in Boston, Massachusetts, which, at the time, was planned to be followed up with an operation upon her return to the United States.

A botched cosmetic procedure in Japan allegedly affected Aunor’s singing voice. She has underwent a number of treatments and operations to regain it.

“Alam mo yan nga ang medyo... Sumasama ang loob ko diyan eh,” Aunor said on Wednesday. “Dahil dapat noon pa ako nagpa-opera, kaya lang may kamahalan nang kaunti, kaya nag-iipon ako para sa operasyon.”

Since returning to the Philippines early this year, Aunor has been welcomed with open arms by long-time fans and new audiences alike.

Dubbed the country’s “Superstar,” Aunor recently scored a first for the country when she won a special award at the recently concluded 69th Venice International Film Festival.

For her portrayal in the Brillante Mendoza film “Thy Womb,” she was handed the Bisato d’ Oro Award. The trophy conferred on the veteran actress by the Premio Della Critica Indipendente, a jury of independent film critics.  (FREEMAN)
