CEBU, Philippines - Cebu’s pride choir, the multi-awarded University of the Visayas Chorale will hold a public performance at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu on September 5, 2012.
The UV Chorale will fly to Rome to sing during a mass to be held before the actual canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod on October 21. The choir group appeals to the public for donations to send them to Rome. The public may also donate through GCASH: Just dial *143# and choose GCASH. The University of the Visayas Chorale (UV CHORALE) was founded in 1999 by the university’s executive vice president, Dr. Jose R. Gullas, to grant scholarship opportunities for musically talented high school and college students.
In 2007, the choir successfully competed in its first-ever international tilt, winning silver and bronze medals and getting ranked as “International Very Good” at the prestigious Busan Choral Festival and Competition.
They were also named gold champions in all categories they joined at the Tomohon International Choir Competition in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The chorale also joined the first Cultural Center of the Philippines National Choir Competition, emerging as one of the big winners by grabbing three gold certificates in all the categories.
They were also chosen as the only Filipino performing group at the World Youth Day in 2008 at Sydney, Australia. And in 2011, the University of the Visayas Chorale (UVC) topped the 2011 MBC Paskong Pinoy national choral competition at the Aliw Theater.
This public performance happens on September 5, 2012 starting at 5pm at the Northwing Atrium, SM City Cebu.
