Aga steps into the political arena

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis - The Philippine Star

Aga Muhlach wants to join the long line of showbiz people who have entered the political arena. Last week, the former matinee idol signed up with the Liberal Party as its candidate for congressman in the 4th district of Camarines Sur in next year’s elections.

Aga’s family is from the town of Goa in CamSur. Aga has become a frequent visitor in the province lately and had even sponsored a wakeboarding competition in CamSur’s popular water sports resort.

His reason for running? He said that he has spent half of his life doing movies. Now he wants to spend the next half giving back his blessings from his showbiz career to the Filipino people.

He said it’s unfair to belittle actors who are aspiring to be politicians. “Those who put down actors are the politicians the actors are up against.”

His wife Charlene said she and Aga had a long discussion about his decision to run. In the end, Aga prevailed.

Kris Aquino says she is so over her separation with ex-hubby James Yap that she does not care if James has found someone new.

“When it’s over, it’s over. Move on, no angst,” Kris said on her morning show, Kris TV, last week. She said she doesn’t even look at James’ Facebook or Instagram pages.

“It’s none of my business anymore,” she insisted.

The Bourne Legacy premiered last week in New York, several days ahead of its Asian premiere on August 5 at the Resorts World in Pasay City. At the red carpet in New York were the film’s main cast bannered by Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz.

Incidentally there is a news story about Rachel Weisz donating money to rehabilitate the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila, which served as a base for cast and crew during the shooting of the movie’s scenes in Metro Manila. The money went to giving the gymnasium and playground equipment a new coat of paint.

What’s intriguing is that an environment watchdog group is claiming that the paint used in the sports complex has high levels of lead. The Ecowaste Coalition said it made its own tests and found that the paint’s lead content was high enough to pose a health hazard, especially to children playing in the complex.

Katherine Jackson, the mom of pop superstar Michael Jackson, has agreed to share guardian-ship of Michael’s three children with TJ Jackson, the son of Michael’s brother Tito.

The agreement was reached after Katherine resurfaced following her mysterious 10-day dis-appearance. That episode revealed a power struggle in the Jackson clan over the pop icon’s last will and testament that bequeathed his estate to his mom and kids Prince, 15, Paris, 14 and Blanket, 10. The Jackson siblings who were left out contested the will.

Katherine had first claimed that she was abducted by her adult children and taken to Arizona, but publicly denied it later.

But last week she told a court that she was practically cut off from the rest of the world while in Arizona.

Rapper/record producer/actor Snoop Dogg used to be known as Snoop Doggy Dogg. Now he has changed his name to Snoop Lion. Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., felt the new name goes well with his new obsession – reggae music.

But wait, there’s more.

Snoop has announced his intention to be a judge on American Idol, now that Steven Tyler has quit the show to concentrate on his band Aerosmith.

If he’s hired, he will be joining Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson as judges in the coming Idol season.

Snoop, Mariah and Randy? That might be an interesting combination. The show did not fare too well in the ratings game last season, and its producers are eager to win back viewers.
