Alden Richards: Carefully planning his career path

“Nervous but excited nonetheless.” These were the words that Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards used to describe how he felt before the launch of “One True Love.” The groundbreaking drama show is the first show on primetime of Alden and favorite partner Louise delos Reyes, a big break indeed for the two Kapuso stars. And they know that much is at stake in this project.

“It is an unbelievable feeling of mixed emotions. I don’t know how I could say thank you for the good things that have been happening to me and my career, considering that I’ve been in the business for little over a year,” said the promising young actor at the press launch of “One True Love.”

“I am really so happy and thankful for this break. I’ve been getting good projects on GMA and I’d also like to thank God for putting me where I am now.”

To say that Alden’s career grew by leaps and bounds is an understatement. He has indeed gone places since he started his career in showbiz on December 2010. He may not have been that lucky to make it as one of the finalists of Starstruck, getting only up to the Top 16. He may not have bagged the title as the Ultimate Male Survivor (won by Steven Silva) but we can rightfully say that in such a short time that he has been in the Kapuso network, Alden is doing even better, much better than those that the demigods on the Kapuso channel have bestowed their magic wands (and influence) on.

Everything came at the right place and at the right time. Barely a year in the business, Alden won the Breakthrough Actor Award last November at the revived Golden Screen TV Awards given by the Entertainment Press Society. Alden won the award for his work in the afternoon soap “Alakdana,” his first team-up with Louise.

“One True Love” is getting very good feedback in terms of the acting being dished out by Alden, giving credence to the observation that the young man has the makings of a potential matinee idol.

What can he say that he has been dubbed by GMA as the next primetime prince? “Naku, sana po matupad,” Alden says with a laugh. “Sana po magampanan ko ‘yung expectations sa akin ng GMA kasi sa lahat po ng trabahong ibinibigay sa akin ng GMA talagang ibinibigay ko lahat – oras, effort, kasi po nag-stop ako ng schooling for showbiz so talagang seseryosohin ko po ito. Sana mag-pay off ang mga hardwork na ibinigay ko rito.”

Alden is kind of wary that everything came so easy for him that’s why he fears a backlash. “Baka naman dahil mabilis ang dating ay baka mabilis din mawala pero sana ay hindi naman. Pero I recognize the fact that I really need to plan my every move with regards to my career. Everything has to be thought out and planned,” he said.

“As much as possible, kailangan ma-satisfy ko kung ano ang hinihingi ng audience and ng network from us. When I say careful, dapat kung anuman ang decision na gagawin ko when it comes to my career, dapat pag-isipan kong mabuti. Hindi ako dapat maging reckless. If ever I am going to make a big move, I would have to think it over and over again, more than twice, para ‘yung result alam mo talaga kung ano ang kalalabasan.”

“But I am excited on what I could give in terms of acting lalo na pag nakaeksena ko na the likes of Ms. Jean Garcia, Ms. Agot Isidro and Mr. Raymond Bagatsing. I won’t stop learning to make myself even better kaya nga love is the least of my concerns at the moment because I’d rather focus on giving a good account of myself. Ayoko naman mapahiya sa mga bigatin kong co-stars.”

In the Philippines, where heavy typhoons and monsoon winds are a common occurrence, fast, accurate and credible weather forecasts are crucial.

Knowing fully well that weather is serious business and should not be taken lightly, the country’s leading broadcast news organization, GMA News and Public Affairs, launches GMA Weather, the most comprehensive and reliable weather information source on Philippine television.

Delivering your daily dose of weather news on 24 Oras and Unang Hirit is resident meteorologist Nathaniel “Mang Tani” Cruz. Mang Tani returns to the Philippines from a two-year stint as a meteorologist for Australia’s national weather, climate, and water agency, Bureau of Meteorology. He is also the former deputy administrator for PAGASA.

With “Mang Tani,” GMA holds the distinction of being the only Philippine television station to have a resident meteorologist.

Also sharing her expertise for GMA Weather is weather analyst Karen Cardenas. Cardenas is the science journalist behind the popular blog and Facebook page, K’s Weather and More.

According to Marissa L. Flores, Senior Vice President for GMA News and Public Affairs, “GMA Weather is committed to providing viewers with a clearer and complete view of the weather. We want to elevate weather reporting in the Philippines and make viewers really understand how the weather works by introducing concepts like rain probability and feels like temperature, among others, through unique and creative visualization tools.”

GMA Weather is powered by no less than the worldwide leader in delivering weather solutions to screens of every type – Weather Central. Founded in 1974 by meteorologists, broadcasters, and computer scientists based in Madison, Wisconsin, Weather Central is widely regarded as the most-viewed weather system in the world.

As a major component of the GMA News Public Service campaign “I M Ready,” GMA Weather also provides viewers constant and accurate weather updates via GMA and GMA News TV’s news programs and other platforms including flagship AM radio station DZBB, GMA News Online, @gmanews on Twitter and facebook.com/GMANews on Facebook.
