Fil-Am all-girl band seeks its share of fame

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -

An all-girl band made up of Fil-Ams is trying to follow in the footsteps of American Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez.

The band, Ivy Rose, has hurdled the first round of America’s Got Talent, ABS-CBN News has reported. The Ivy Rose is a Washington DC-based group made up of sisters Isabelle, Sarah and Kristine de Leon, and Martina San Diego. And guess what? All their mothers are Cebuanas!

They still have a long way to go, but if they do win, the band pockets $1 million and gets a chance to perform in Las Vegas.

Speaking of Fil-Am talents, Cheesa Laureta, who had a good run in The Voice, a talent show just like American Idol, performed a duet with Charice at the benefit concert “Para Sa Inyo Kapamilya” in Carson City, California, recently. The two sang Saving All My Love for You, a Whitney Houston staple.

If you are a Sarah Geronimo fan, you won’t have any problem catching your idol in concert.

Sarah’s birthday concert 24/G is scheduled at the Araneta Coliseum on July 7. But because of the big demand for tickets, there will be repeat performance on July 21.

Sarah is of course thrilled at the enthusiastic reception to her forthcoming concert and promises to give her fans a show they won’t forget.

Last year, Sarah didn’t have a solo concert, although she shared the stage with Martin Nievera in a Valentine show also at the Big Dome.

T3, the show on TV5 hosted by the Tulfo brothers Raffy, Ben and Erwin, was slapped a three-month suspension by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Not only that; The brothers have been fined P100,000 for making threats in the show against Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto following the couple’s brawl with Mon Tulfo at the NAIA last month.

TV5 understandably isn’t happy that the show has been yanked off the air. “TV5 regrets the decision of the MTRCB and views it as an act in excess of its jurisdiction,” the network said in a statement. “At this point, TV5 will turn to the Court of Appeals and seek judgment in its pending petition to enjoin the MTRCB from further enforcing the sanctions until a definitive ruling is made on the issue of grave abuse of discretion committed by the Censorship Board.”

John Prats is philosophical about his break-up with Bianca Manalo. “You go through stages. You fall in love, then along the way, you get to know your partner better and realize it’s either not going to work out or you weren’t meant for each other,” Prats said.

John also said being celebrities who are always in the glare of the limelight might have affected their relationship. “Things get magnified. Although we as public figures owe a lot to our fans, sometimes we also needed some private moments.”

Bianca has denied John’s co-host in Banana Split, Sunshine Garcia, was the reason behind the break-up.

Omigosh! Justin Bieber suffered a concussion after running into a glass wall during a concert in Paris. The teen pop star passed out backstage but quickly recovered. He even joked about the incident on Twitter: “Gotta laugh at yourself sometimes.”

A day earlier, Justin had to escape a horde of fans that swarmed a mini-concert promoting his upcoming album, Believe, in Oslo, Norway.

About 50 young girls were reportedly injured and 14 had to be treated in hospitals.
