Cecile Licad to perform in Cebu for sendong victims

- Debbie Duraliza -

CEBU, Philippines - The New Yorker called her a “pianist’s pianist” and the Chicago Sun-Times described her as “extraordinary and one of the great flaming talents that comes along one or two times in every generation.”

After more than a decade, Cecile Licad will return to Cebu on March 27 for a benefit concert at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

Concert pianist Cecile Licad made her debut with a full orchestra at seven years old and honed her talent at the Curtis Institute of Music by three of the greatest pedagogues of our time: Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski.

The US-based pianist will be in Manila on March 17 for “The Legends and the Classics” concert with Lea Salonga and Lisa Macuja Elizalde with the Filharmonika orchestra under the baton of Gerard Salonga at the CCP main theater. Licad will then proceed to Pampanga and Calbayog, Samar. Cebu will be the final leg of her Philippine tour.

Her solo outreach program includes Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie in A-flat major, Op.61; Three Mazurkas Op.56; Andante spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat major, Op. 22 and Liszt’s Miserere du “trovatore” de Verdi – Paraphrase de Concert and Aprés une Lecture de Dante: Fantasia quasi Sonata.

The Cebu concert is a joint fundraising project of Sacred Heart School Alumni Association together with Ateneo de Cebu and ADM Alumni Association Cebu Chapter for the benefit of Typhoon Sendong and earthquake victims.

Tickets at P2,000, P1,500, P1,000, and P500. For inquiries call Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Alumni Association Alumni Secretariat at 4224378 or call 09212780142. Or email: [email protected].
