CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Hip Hop Jamboree Volume I is here, even though many thought hip hop has ceased to exist.
The hip hop community in Cebu has once again proven that they are off to a strong comeback. As promised during "The Gathering"- an event that assembled all hip hop enthusiasts in Cebu November 26 last year - the first hip hop compilation album, purely Cebuano, was launched this month.
6000 GOONZ Entertainment & ALL HIP-HOP CEBU in cooperation with HYBRID Dance Bar - together with their sponsors COMPLEX Lifestyle Store, SECRET FRESH, 6G SWAGGER and TEASE by Hi-C - Cebu Hip Hop Jamboree held on the first Friday the thirteenth of the year, January 13, 2012, was jam packed.
Cebu Hip Hop Jamboree showcased Cebu’s own hip hop artists. Having fifteen artists who performed, the event showed that hip hop industry in Cebu would be back on track in no time. Artists like GNB, ICEBERGG, HAROU, PHAT SCRAPP, YOUNG FIL, DISCIPLE OF UBEC, BRONZLUGAW, T-MACK, CDD, CROOKED BWOY, KNIVE EVERDOPE & BIG RAM, WHUT IT DO, and Cebu’s Pride DiCE & k9/MOBBSTARR.
"I think even the uninitiated maka-appreciate kung makita nila ang skills na side sa hiphop," Kris 'Pain-in-the-Neck' Villarino, who opened the event with his single "D.M.D", said as he shared his insights about the growing hip hop community in Cebu, "at the same time, maka-inspire siya sa mga batan-on and hopefully instead nga mag-gang, ma-divert sila into more productive endeavors ug i-develop nila ilang hiphop skills," he added.
Aside from the launching of the album, the event was also highlighted with rap, beat, dance and Graffiti battle. GLOC, MURDA & PHAT SCRAPP, G.O.S and Team SVD won the said events accordingly and were given gift packs from 6G Swagger and Tease by Hi-C.
"This album is the start of something big for Cebu hip-hop", Dice Rosaroso, head of 6000 GOONZ Entertainment and Producer of the AHHC Compilation album, said. This album is not the end as it is only Volume I. "Bigger events and more artists from the album," Dice assured everyone for the upcoming other compilation. "How strong? Visayan strong!" Hi-C from Mobbstarr added.
Cebu can expect to see more and hear more from these Cebuano talents as some of these guys are off to release their music video on MYX Channel. GnB, ICEBERGG, Knive Everdope & BigRam and Pain are expected to have their music videos launched on MYX by March of this year while others are working on their videos. Cebu Hip Hop Jamboree will be shown as well on URBAN MYX sometime this March.
