Brace yourself for an Agimat-Enteng Sequel

My showbiz wish for 2011? A bigger break for indie films. I’ve been saying that indies are a spawning ground for quality movies that reap awards in filmfests abroad but are unappreciated at home.

I really hope this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival would sustain the initiative begun last year to exhibit indies at selected theaters.

This is one way of exposing the Filipino moviegoers to works other than the usual run of commercially viable offerings.

By this time, “Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote” would have broken the P100-million mark in the Metro Manila filmfest box office. Close at its heels are the AiAi dela Alas starrer “Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To” and a far third is Kris Aquino’s “Dalaw.”

Bunched together in the middle are “Shake, Rattle and Roll 12” “RPG: Metanoia” and “Super Inday at ang Magic Bibe,” and “Rosario,” while bringing up the rear is Dolphy’s “Fr. Jejemon.”

Buoyed by their joint venture’s overwhelming success, Sen. Bong Revilla and Vic Sotto are seriously looking at a sequel to “Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote.”

And don’t rule out another “Ang Tanging Ina Mo” despite the promise that the current one will be the last.

Will Mother Lily Monteverde carry on the “Shake, Rattle and Roll” scary-Christmas tradition? If ever, this year’s offering will be no. 13. I hope Mother does not suffer from triskaidekaphobia, or a fear for that particular number!

Elated that “Dalaw” is performing well in the filmfest, Kris Aquino is rewarding herself and her family with a weeklong trip to Singapore.

The media megastar left January 1 with sons Joshua and James Jr. and will be back in time for the resumption of school on the 10th.

One of the spots they will visit is Universal Studios.

James Yap will not be joining them. Kris explained that her estranged husband’s team in the PBA has made it to the semifinals so he needs to focus on the game.

“Let’s not rock the boat. We’re already okay. Besides, someone might get upset,” Kris said.

Hmm, could she be referring to Bianca Manalo? The star of “Juanita Banana” has recently been linked to James, but she insists she’s not carrying on with James.

“I first met him when I became the muse of Purefoods. That was last year yet. We bump into each other once in a while, but it’s just ‘hi’ and ‘hello.’”

The former Miss Philippines-Universe also denied that James had been texting her.  (FREEMAN)
