The Return of Charice on "Glee"
CEBU, Philippines - When is Charice returning to “Glee” as Sunshine Corazon?
After making her debut in the season 2 opener of the hugely popular musical-drama TV series, fans of the Filipina singing sensation will be delighted to know that she’ll be back on episode 7, Entertainment Weekly confirmed, citing unnamed sources. (“Glee” just aired its second episode featuring Britney Spears last week.)
As the foreign exchange student Sunshine whose killer vocals nearly gave New Directions’ resident star singer Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele) a heart attack in the pilot episode, expect another showdown between the two as Sunshine assumes her place as the new singing star of the rival choir, Vocal Adrenalin.
Meanwhile, in her latest US interview with Wallstreet Journal, Charice hinted at a potential love interest on “Glee.”
Asked who would she choose among Other Asian ( played by Mike Chang), Puck (Mark Salling) or Finn (Cory Monteith) as Sunshine’s invariable love interest, she told Wallstreet Journal, “I kinda like Artie (Kevin McHale). Sunshine’s character is a bit nerdy, so I think they would be cute together.” (See photo of Charice with Kevin McHale on this page, taken during Glee’s premiere party.)
Charice also expressed her desire to cover other artists other than Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Jennifer Holliday on the show. “Sunshine would love to dance. I would love to try a Michael Jackson song.”
In the same interview, Charice also paid tribute to another Filipino artist who did very well in the US—Lea Salonga—and dismissed any talk that tries to spark a rivarly of sorts between her and the Broadway star.
“We’ve worked together before in the Philippines, but no one can be her. She’s a professional and I’m just starting out. I’d sing with her again, but it would be a bit challenging because she’s more Broadway and I’m more of a pop singer.”
Meantime, the diminutive singer announced on her Twitter page that her self-titled album is now certified gold in Japan.
She is also making her way up on the US charts. According to Billboard, Charice’s version of “Listen,” her audition piece in the “Glee” season opener, debuted at No. 38 of the Hot 100 Chart. In comparison, Beyonce’s original version, which was featured in the movie “Dreamgirls,” was on a lower spot on the Hot 100 Chart at No. 61 when the song was first released in 2007.
