When the recent Ruffa Gutierrez and Kris Aquino tiff was taking cyberspace by storm, one of the Twitter comments that I delighted in reading said something like, “It’s a pity they’re fighting because they’re totally MFO.”
That’s “made for each other,” for those of you who aren’t in the know.
I still completely agree. While Kris was obviously the dominant personality in The Buzz—I doubt if Ruffa could ever outtalk her, although she can definitely outdo Kris, controversy-wise—it was always interesting to see them together, battling to make good sense out of their very public, eventful lives. Unfortunately, the two had to go their separate ways: Kris to continue laying claim to her ABS-CBN kingdom with The Buzz, among other shows, and Ruffa to make her own fortune with Paparazzi, among other shows, over at ABC 5.
Of course, if you’re MFO, fate will find a way to bring you together, even if it’s just in the headlines of the hottest entertainment news: Kris finally declares her five-year marriage to basketball player James Yap over, while Ruffa also admits that she did have a relationship with John Lloyd Cruz, after the matinee idol admitted as much when he also declared that he and Shaina Magdayao are officially a couple.
Are you even surprised that Kris and James have called it quits?
In her statement on The Buzz last Sunday, Kris pointed out the obvious: that the whole country was witness to what she and James had been going through in their five years together. Honestly, from what was exposed in public, I’d be surprised if anybody was even surprised their marriage didn’t last.
I think Kris received excellent advice concerning this latest development in her married life: She has decided not to give any unnecessary explanations for the sake of her three-year-old son Baby James, who will have surely found videos of his parents’ breakup online had Kris decided to air it for public consumption.
I don’t mean to judge Kris and James. I’m sure marriage entails a lot of hard work, and more so if you are both public personalities. What I do believe is that airing out dirty linen in public never helps any marriage.
In the same The Buzz interview, Kris also expressed that her family still hopes she and James can work it out. I share their hope, because I still cling to the truth that the family is the basic unit of the society. Happy people create happy families; happy families create a happy society.
Silence is a good step for Kris, I think.
But then again, she wouldn’t be the Kris we all love or hate or love to hate if she did completely stay quiet, right?
And are you as boggled as I am about Ruffa and JLC?
I did think there was something to the photos taken paparazzi-style in the United States. Then, there were those pronouncements from Anabelle Rama herself about JLC sending her food and talking to her to apologize for the rumors wildly circulating against Ruffa. I just didn’t think there was an official relationship to admit anything about.
But all’s well that ends well, at least in the public eye. JLC is now with someone who doesn’t rankle too many feathers; Ruffa is on full yummy mommy mode. And somewhere in the world, her ex-husband Ylmaz is happily, we hope, in the arms of another beauty queen.
