CEBU, Philippines - Singing sensation Charice Pempengco appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last May 11 to formally launch her first international album. It was the fourth occasion she guested in the highly popular US show.
The show featured Charice's life story from the day she started singing until she reached her dream to perform internationally with various popular artists like Andrea Boccelli and Celine Dion. The house she bought for her mother out of her earnings was also shown in the program.
Charice, who was accompanied to the show by David Foster, broke into the US pop music scene after her appearances on "The Ellen de Generes Show" and on Oprah's show.
"She is one of the most talented young people we've ever had on 'The Oprah Show.' We first met her two years ago, a gifted little girl from half way around the world," was Winfrey's magnanimous introduction of Charice.
After retracing Charice's life, Oprah called the teen singer to come on stage and engaged her on a brief Q&A. Charice then performed "Pyramid," the first single off her album which now tops the current Billboard dance chart:
Oprah: Can you believe it's only been two years ago.
Charice: I can't believe this, it's amazing.
Oprah: Now you have your first album?
Charice: I'm really, really excited because this is actually my first ever Pop-RnB album because I'd been singing you know Whitney Houston's songs and Celine Dion's songs, and now, I can't believe that these are my own songs, I'm really happy.
Oprah: Does it feel like it's a dream come true for you?
Charice: It is. I didn't expect all of these, that all of these are gonna happen to me. All these are happening to me because a lot of people actually helped me and you are one of them. Thank you so much.
Oprah: You've worked a lot with the legendary songwriter and producer David Foster. What kind of advise has he been giving you?
Charice: I've learned a lot from Mr. David and we are working a lot, but the best thing that he always tells me is that it has to be great.
