CEBU, Philippines – The University of the Visayas is reviving its host of unique summer activities such as Miss Rose of Summer 2009 and Summerian’s Day.
Both events were long-running traditions of the University of the Visayas from the 70’s to the 90’s, which set a trend among universities and colleges in Cebu. After a lengthy lull, these events are revived this summer.
According to UV summer events director Joe Galeon, the events are meant to end the summer school with a bang.
The screening of candidates of Miss Rose of Summer will be held today, May 8 at 1pm in the CRID Room, 3rd Floor Admin. Bldg. Pre-judging will be on May 15, 1pm at the Inday Pining Teatro, while the Coronation Night happens on May 18, 6pm at the UV Quadrangle.
“We’re looking for someone who’s really brains and beauty. Whoever wins the competition will enjoy a scholarship for a year,” Galeon said.
The “Summerian’s Day” will treat all summer students a whole day of fun and games. It will happen on May 15, at the UV Quadrangle and will culminate with live performances from the South Side Band.
