Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry promotes green lifestyle with SM Green Bag

Reigning Miss Earth Karla Paula Henry lauded the creation of the SM Green Bag as one way of encouraging people to adopt a green lifestyle. The 22-year-old beauty queen noted that the SM Green Bag promotes such eco-friendly values as recycling.

The SM Green Bag, which was recently launched in SM Malls nationwide including SM City Cebu, is a reusable, multi-purpose, foldable and hardwearing non-woven fabric bag, made of 100-percent polypropylene, and may last up to two years of weekly use. Polypropylene is recyclable, non-toxic, allergy free and non-reactive to human skin. Its four designs representing graces from the land, air, water and energy were courtesy of world-renowned Filipino artist Manuel Baldemor.

Henry further stressed that everybody must have a green lifestyle because they are not just taking care of Mother Nature, but they were also looking after their selves and their children’s future.

Part of her blueprint as Miss Earth 2008 is planting 20,000 trees within the year 2009. This will also be replicated by the members of her court—Miss Tanzania, Miss Mexico and Miss Russia—in their respective countries. –Marigold P. Lebumfacil
