MassKara Festival’s Flights of Fancy

Some enchanted evening it was when the fourth edition of the MassKara Festival’s Fantasy Costume competition and stage presentation was held last Saturday night at the Fountain of Justice, right in front of Bacolod City Hall, in Negros Occidental.

The competition’s organizer, visual artist-costume designer Bamboo Tonogbanua, told The FREEMAN that the fantasy costume tilt had grown better, ever springing up surprises each year. As one of the major highlights of the annual MassKara festival, Tonogbanua said that this year’s staging had drawn more spectators and entries than previous years.

While the theme of this year’s MassKara Festival was “Icons of Bacolod,” Tonogbanua said that they purposely veered away from the theme so as not to contain and cramp the imagination and talent of the 17 participants, which are a mix bunch of fashion designers, make-up artists, students as well as people into film production.

The costumes ran the gamut—some seemed to have leapt out from a medieval story while others appeared to have just landed from outer space. Have your fill of the creative genius and flair of flights of fancy of Bacolodnons (and which our current crop and future fantaseryes can perhaps learn a thing or two from) with these 2007 MassKara Festival fantasy costume entries.
