It’s final! After much guesswork and suspense, Iza Calzado is set to reprise her role in the Hollywood version of the award-winning Filipino horror flick “Sigaw.”
The tabloid Pang-Masa reported that she was beside herself with excitement after her mother network GMA 7 has agreed to advance tapings for her ongoing television series “Impostora” so that she can leave for Toronto, Canada next month.
This is because by mid-August, the Hollywood version titled as “The Echo” will begin shooting, with film producers retaining Yam Laranas as director and Calzado as the battered wife who haunts a run-down apartment in the film.
“I really fought for her,” Laranas was quoted in The Philippine Star yesterday.
This will mark Iza’s first-ever foray into the world’s biggest filming capital and may possibly usher in a Hollywood break for the 25-year-old dramatic actress. The cast also includes Jesse Bradford (“Flags of Our Fathers,” “Swimfan”) who will portray Richard Gutierrez’s leading role in the original film.
Iza was also quoted by Pang-Masa as saying that she wouldn’t be away for long as she is scheduled to shoot for the Regal Entertainment movie “Desperadas,” one of the entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Fest.
After its release in 2004, Sigaw has since then scored awards here and abroad, and has particularly caught the attention of Hollywood producers after competing and winning Best Music at the Screamfest L.A. in 2005.
