Zsa Zsa, worthy of (another) award for 'Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah'
December 1, 2006 | 12:00am
Will Zsa Zsa Padilla repeat her victory at the Metro Manila Film Festival this year? Last year, Zsa Zsa won the best actress award for the comedy "Ako Legal Wife" directed by Joel Lamangan. The Divine Diva is again in the running for the best actress award as the lead star of "Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh," a mega-budgeted musical adventure based on Carlo Vergara's award-winning graphic novel.
"I am not expecting anything but I did my best," said the Divine Diva at the presscon of this latest comedy caper from Regal Entertainment directed also by Joel who, without batting an eyelash, said that Zsa Zsa is capable of winning twice in a row for her performance as the sexy superheroine.
Having worked with Zsa Zsa in "Ako Legal Wife," direk Joel knows what he speaks of. "She's very good in the film. Actually, everybody is good in the film. They all did well. I believe Zsa Zsa stands a good chance in winning another acting award." In case you've forgotten, Zsa Zsa won three best actress trophies for "Ako Legal Wife."
The movie press members were impressed with the trailer of "Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah." The cast was similarly impressed. "It was worth all the hardships and pain we went through doing the film," said Zsa Zsa. "If you liked the trailer, wait until you see the entire movie. We have more in store for you. The trailer only featured a bit of what the movie has to offer."
The 13th NU Rock Awards will be held tonight at the World Trade Center in Roxas Blvd. and we're pretty sure all rock music aficionados would not dare miss the event. Among the guest performers are Itchyworms, Parokya ni Edgar, Sandwich and Pedicab.
Veritably, the who's who in the rock music scene are vying for top honors in various categories namely Best New Artist, Vocalist of the Year, Guitarist of the Year, Bassist of the Year, Drummer of the Year, Best Live Act, Rising Sun Award, In The Raw Awardee, Song of the Year, Artist/Band of the Year, Best Male Award, Best Female Award, Album of the Year, Best Album Packaging, Best Music Video of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
Garnering 12 nominations in various categories is the group Kamikazee (who popularized the song "Narda" taken from their album titled "Maharot"). Taking 10 nominations in various categories is the Cebuano band Urbandub for their album "Embrace."
Taking five nominations is the band Pupil (headed by Ely Buendia of Eraserheads fame). Pupil was recently awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the SOP Music Awards last Sunday held at SM Mall of Asia. Among the nominations garnered by Pupil in the NU Rock Awards are Album of the Year, Band of the Year, and Song of the Year for "Nasaan Ka."
The NU Rock Awards is sponsored by Red Horse Beer, Sun Cellular, Levi's, Converse, Sunsilk, Pepsi Max, Robinson's Malls, Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall, Hard Rock Cafe, Odyssey Music and Videos, and Myx Magazine. No bad blood between Raymond and Jay-R
Even if Raymond Gutierrez ad Jay-R figured in an intrigue recently (with regards to a comment made allegedly by Jay-R regarding Raymond's sexuality), this did not stop QTV from getting the two to work together in MMS (Music Mo Sikat).
The show hosted by Raymond marked its first year anniversary last Saturday and as a special treat, they held a live show at SM Mall of Asia last Saturday where two new hosts were introduced - Jay-R and Alessandra de Rossi.
Raymond and Jay-R shared a good rapport during the show. It was even Raymond who introduced Jay-R to the audience. It seems the issue regarding the remark allegedly made by Jay-R on the show of DJ Mo Twister about Raymond's "sexuality" has now been forgotten.
The show featured a number of popular bands (among them 6 Cyclemind and Imago), plus solo artists like Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid. The show was taped and will be aired in the next few days so do watch out for it on QTV.
Comedian and sing-along host Chocoleit says it's a dream come true for him to be part of "Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah Zee Moveh." It's his biggest acting break after appearing in the TV series "Marina" where he played the character Pearly Shell (the sidekick of Malu de Guzman who played Dugong) and the sitcom "Bora" where he played the wife of Dennis Padilla. (Yes, he played the role of a woman there.)
"I've been dreaming to do a movie and finally my wish has come true," said Chocoleit who plays the loudmouth gay alalay of Rustom Padilla (as Ada) and Zsa Zsa Padilla (as Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah) in the musical-comedy directed by Joel Lamangan, the entry of Regal Entertainment to the Metro Manila Film Festival.
"Parang hindi nga ako makapaniwala noong una. Totoo ba ito? Imagine kasama ko sa movie sina Zsa Zsa Padilla, Pops Fernandez, Rustom Padilla, Alfred Vargas. Bongga ang casting di ba? Tapos hindi lang basta-basta ang role ko bilang alalay ni Rustom kundi markado rin," said Chocoleit at the movie's presscon last Monday.
He said he felt the jitters when he learned that he'd be working with Joel Lamangan, knowing that the director is very strict and didn't want his stars to be late.
"Sa takot kong ma-late at mapagalitan, alas tres pa lang ng umaga umaalis na ako ng Manila kasi sa Magdalena, Laguna pa ang location namin. Hindi na bale na ako ang mauna roon at maghintay kaysa ma-late ako kasi nakakahiya naman kay direk Joel at sa mga malalaking artista na kasama ko," Chocoleit related. The comedian cum sing-along artist was so delighted when he learned that direk Joel praised his acting in the movie. "He's a revelation. He did very well in his role," said the award-winning director of Chocoleit.
Does this mean Chocoleit might win an acting award in his first big movie role? He'd surely be glad if that happens.
