Angelica Panganiban: 'The most exciting star in 2007'

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis -
Really, Jake Cuenca is not Angelica Panganiban's type, even if two are cast in the new season of ABS-CBN's Love Spell. One reason: Angelica doesn't go for mestizos.

"We're also so much different," she says. "I'm a spendthrift; he's a big spender. And we have different lifestyles. I think his family's rich. I don't think we can hit if off."

Jake has been courting Angelica persistently ever since she was 17.

"It's an off and on thing. Sometimes he's interested, then he drops out of sight," she says.

Is there a chance of making up with Carlo Aquino? "I don't think so, but I can't really tell," the actress says.

There was really no compelling reason why they broke up, she continues. It's just that they must have grown tired of each other. "We've known each other since we were kids so maybe we became just too familiar with each other."

Incidentally Carlo and Sarah Geronimo are being groomed as a love team.

If she had her way, Angelica would rather have someone out of showbiz as a boyfriend. A commercial model or a businessman would be more to her liking. "I want someone who will understand me."

Angelica promises to use her head next time she tries a new relationship. She has no plans of getting serious with anybody, especially now that ABS-CBN and Star Cinema have big plans for her.

Ethel Ramos sees Angelica as the most exciting star in 2007 because of the promising projects lined up for her. There is a yet-untitled movie with John Lloyd Cruz, and another one with Aga Muhlach and Maricel Soriano. Angelica's excited about her kissing scene with Aga. When Star Cinema asked her whom she wants for a leading man, she readily picked Aga.

I asked Angelica about Heart Evangelista, her friend even before Heart fell for Jericho Rosales. Heart's lost some pounds and dreads getting fat.

Anyway, expect a double treat from Love Spell this month when Angelica and Maja Salvador swap roles in Home Switch Home, a magical love story with a twist.

It also stars John Wayne Sace, Jason Abalos, Jake Cuenca and Frank Garcia.

Angelica plays Princess, the rich but lonely girl, and Maja is Shine, the street vendor.

The two are sisters but don't know, having been separated at birth. The two have the same birthday wish: a change of life.

Home Switch Home also stars Bing Loyzaga, Charmaine Sentenaria, Tuesday Vargas and Kakai Bautista. It's on every Sunday, after Your Song.

What happened to Julia Clarete's prize in ABC 5's reality search show, American Dream? Julia has married and gotten pregnant already, but the program's producers haven't come up with her prize. I wonder how long she's willing to wait.

What if name stars like Pinky Amador or Raymond Bagatsing won? Would they stand for such a treatment? Or would American Dream face a handful of lawsuits for breach of contract?

The producers promised the winner membership card in the Screen Actors Guild of America and appearances in several TV shows and movies in the US. That hasn't materialized yet.

Paging Mr. Romeo Joven.

Also in danger of becoming a pipe dream is the film Wrinkles, supposed to be shot in the US. One veteran actor who's in on the project said the cast has grown wrinkles waiting for the go-ahead to shoot. "We've been meeting for almost two months now. Lunch, dinner meetings. We go to Tagaytay because the producer has a partner who owns a gourmet restaurant there. It's a waste of time," the actor laments.

"They told us the project was on hold because of problems in the US. Then we never heard from them again."

Among the other actors left hanging by Wrinkles are Eddie Garcia, Liza Lorena, Robert Arevalo, Gina Pareño, Mila Ocampo and Tommy Abuel.

Production was scheduled to start last year but it got stalled because it was difficult getting working visas for the actors. They were finally able to secure their visas but the visas have expired.

I understand Mr. Romeo Joven is also involved in the project.
